The Stamp of approval

It has been several weeks, months even, since I’ve gotten accepted to the ILC program and to the Columbia Presidential Powers Class. I’ve planned my summer around the agenda but in the back of my mind I’ve known that it may not happen. Though ILC had to get approved by the District Board, I was confident that the prestigious, generous program would pass. Nonetheless, there was still that “what if?”. Pending the notification that it passed, my summer was still uncertain.

However, last night we, the participants of the ILC, received the approval and endorsement by members of the Board: Ms. Audrey Miles, Mr. Antonio Medrano, Mr. Tony Thurmond and District Superintendent Dr. Bruce Harter. Much gratitude is given to these dedicated and compassionate members along with Mr. Ramsey, Ms. Kronenberg and Don Gosney for their never-ending support.

Finally, my summer is true and definite. I will certainly take advantage of the situation and experience the Ivy Leagues in honor of these great people!

  1. Yes, Michelle the agenda item to send you to New York did pass unanimously! The school board has a lot of confidence in each of you and wants each of you to understand that you can make a difference.

Now is the time to become more familiar with Bard College, Vassar College, Yale University and The University of Pennsylvania. These schools will also be part of your conversation. Columbia University is also ready to embrace you with open arms.

Since you have now passed the ultimate test in getting approved by the duly elected board of trustees, you can start to pack those bags!

    Take care.

  2. Michelle,

Most of you are finally grasping the concept that none of this is just happening. It takes the work of a lot of people to make this happen and many of these people are putting their John Hancock's on checks to help finance the ILC while others are doing the actual work to ensure that the plans all come together.

What the Board did is important but it's still only a part of what's necessary. Over the next few months you're going to get a chance to meet many of the people who have made this possible for you all.

Had you not been the kind of student and person you are, you'd just be hearing abut this from a fellow student instead of being right in the middle of it all. As I wrote, it takes the efforts of a lot of people but that also includes you and your fellow ILC members.
