Forty minutes of sleep is never a good way to start the day. I decided to wake up at 4:30 AM go to the Lady Gaga concert at the Rockefeller Center for two reasons. First, it was free, and second, my mental health is somewhat expendable.
In hind sight, it was a pretty dumb decision. We arrived around 5:00 and we were by no means the first ones there. As it went on, people got really packed and everyone pressed against everyone else. Things quickly got really hot and cramped which left everyone dying for the light gusts of wind that would occasionally cool and refresh us. I stayed in the crowd until around 7, when I found out that the actual concert wasn't going to start until shortly before my class! I did see Lady Gaga on stage for a brief period when she was rehearsing, so not a total loss I guess. Still, the entire thing was kind of crazy. Funny thing is, I'm not even really a fan of hers, I just thought it would be an interesting experience.
Now about my day AFTER 7 in the morning. Lab today was pretty fun! Instead of doing a lab experiment with a lab partner, we went around a lab with our TAs who showed us lab processes involving million dollar pieces of equipment! It's kind of strange that something worth a house can look like a strange oversized printer.
Today was Ged Parkin's second time coming to speak to our chemistry class. His first time with us, he gave a very interesting, but abstract and difficult to follow talk about bond stretch isomers. Today, he brought in explosions and time after time gave vibrant demonstrations of the ideas he tackled during his talk. It was by far, the most exciting chemistry lecture I'll ever receive.
Tonight, I went out with Mr. and Mrs. Ishmael, Winston, Michael, and Yueming to see the Phantom of the Opera! I absolutely loved it. All of the actors had amazingly beautiful voices that combined with the full orchestra to create an incredible sound.
Well, I have to be up early tomorrow. Going to get some rest. Good night!

ReplyDeleteFunny that you should mention that show--there was a story in this morning's local paper about it. They said it was the largest show ever held for The Todays Show with more than 18,000 people in attendance.
That's too bad you couldn't stick around to see more than the rehearsal.
Even an old guy like me is a Lady Gaga fan.
With shows like this one, you have to wonder: "Don't these people have jobs?" What are they all doing out there when they should be at work.
Wow! It didn't even look like there were more than a thousand, but that was a while before it started.
ReplyDeleteI was talking to a guy standing next to me and I was debating whether or not I could make it to class if I stayed or whether I should leave right away and he remarked "Well, if the classroom has air conditioning that'd do it for me." While I'm sure I missed out, in some ways I'm glad I didn't have to wait for another hour and a half.
